The most memorable learning happens in nature’s classroom.
Pleasant Bay is one of the most biologically diverse and productive marine habitats on the East Coast and the largest estuary on Cape Cod. In this special, protected environment, ocean tides mingle with fresh water, providing an ideal breeding ground for fish and shellfish. Meanwhile, migratory birds count on the Bay as a safe haven as they rest and feed before moving on.
Our programs use this rich variety of real-life examples to support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning with an emphasis on the environment of Pleasant Bay. Collaborations with state, regional, and local institutions of higher learning and environmental organizations are enabling us to spearhead meaningful hands-on laboratory programs, such as genomic organism testing, water quality testing, eel grass replanting, and more.
