Brush up on a variety of skills for this rental or racing season

Hone your skills and learn new ones on a variety of topics including moorings, upwind sailing, light air, and many more. Led by Catboat Program Coordinator Peter Grumbling, workshops are the perfect way to gain more confidence while sailing and to develop new techniques. Across a 3-hour experience, participants will receive instruction on land and coaching on the water as they work through sailing exercises. You’ll practice working together in boat groups and solidify your skills. Participants should feel comfortable making basic maneuvers and getting on and off of moorings without an instructor on board.

Start the season off strong and join us the second week of June for one or more workshops! Topics include:

  • 6/8: Rigging Review: After a long winter off the water, come join us for a review of rigging and reefing systems on both our Flying Scots and Catboats. We will cover basic steps and techniques for rigging as well as some ways to resolve some common rigging issues that come up.
  • 6/9: Mooring Procedures: Join us for an on-water practice to refresh our skills for the season: getting back on the mooring as well as building some new skills to develop our boat handling skills. Participants will work through drills together on the water.
  • 6/10: Tacking and Jibing Efficiently: Refine your skills bringing the boat through the wind direction. Whether you’re looking to become faster on the race course or build confidence cruising around the bay, join us to improve and practice some of the most important maneuvers in sailing.
  • 6/11: Docking: Navigating docks safely and smoothly under sail is a great skill for any sailor. This workshop will cover how to make a plan to get onto and off of the dock based on the conditions, and execute it. 
  • 6/12: Navigating the Race Course: Interested in getting into racing and building confidence this summer? This workshop will cover the basic skills needed to work your way around the race course and manage sailing safely near other boats.

Additional workshop dates will be offered periodically, throughout the summer. We’re planning to also offer workshops the afternoons of 7/3, 7/24, and 8/14.
