b"Day CampUnder the guidance and care of our experienced staff, local experts, and scientists, 53 students participated in our first week-long, full-day Sailing and Science Summer Day Camp.The camp program blended the adventures of learning to sail with a fascinating marine biology curriculum developed in collaboration with experts from the Center of Coastal Studies.As campers explored the natural wonders of our 3.6-acre shoreline and the Bay beyond they learned about how human activities impact the ocean environment and discovered how fun it could be to learn about science. They made aquariums, observed seals, cared for baby oysters in an upweller, built and raced cardboard boats, used microscopes, measured phytoplankton levels, practiced kayaking and rowing, rigged boats, used a beach seine, observed marine habitats and wildlife, and sailed to the islands in Pleasant Bay.Its safe to say, the kids learned a lot and had crazy fun too!Scholarship ProgramPBCBs Greg Kelly Scholarship Fund awarded more than $4,000 in scholarships to local families so they could attend day camp and sailing programs.Working as a junior intern at PBCB this summer was an amazing experience. Because ofSo many activities, sports, camps, etc. weren't able to carry COVID we had to improvise and ending up using a lot of our sunfish so kids could sail safely.on due to all of the COVID-19 restrictions.PBCB was able to This created more experiences for the kids to sail and junior interns to help. It was so much funstart their summer and keep their sailing program running.and I learned so much and grew a lot as a sailor.Nicole I was so grateful that my girls were still able to participate in their week of sailing lessons.The staff went above and Liam and Lily have not been so excited since probablybeyond to make the experience fun and safe.And for a Both girls are having aMarch 12th. They are both so, so happy with the full daycouple hours every morning, my girls were able to forget wonderful time.
