With Paddling the addition of our new ADA compliant accessible dock, specially adapted boats and transfer equipment, and trained instructor staff, PBCB now provides boating opportunities to those who may require special assistance or adaptive equipment due to physical or cognitive challenges. These bright young people will strengthen PBCB's programs Leadershipwhile becoming stronger sailors, leaders, and well-rounded individuals as they learn the ins and Trainingouts of running a community boating center. Whether or not graduates of this program choose to continue as PBCB instructors, our goal is to give all JIs the tools and confidence they need to Program be successful in whatever they pursue.RETURNSParticipants will work closely with PBCB's senior staff, instructors, and youth participants to learn the basics of being a sailing instructor, receive mentorship, become familiar with our fleet, and gain valuable work experience. Our JIs will not only shadow instructors, practice teaching, and fine-tune their sailing skills, they will also learn about boat maintenance, marketing, social media, and nonprofit work from our senior staff. At the end of the summer, our Program Director will provide constructive feedback and will work with participants to update their resumes.JIs will work up to 30 hours a week, anywhere from a half to a whole 9-week summer, depending on their availability. Our goal is to make this program as inclusive as possible for teens with other jobs, interests, or family commitments while still providing a high-quality experience. JIs will participate in a rotating schedule that will include the following activities:Instructor shadowingSupervised teaching practiceRacing, race committee, and coaching clinicsBoat maintenance and small repair projectsRental, registration, and customer service Social media, marketing, and photography projectsMeetings with senior staff to learn about running a nonprofit sailing center(Optional) Help with extras, like race evenings, community events, an end-of-season celebration for our campers, and kayaking tours"
