WOW Registration will open 2/11/25 at 10 AM

Beginning in 2023, PBCB launched a unique sailing experience designed and taught by women, for women. Across two summers, more than 150 women have participated in this program.

Our goal is to provide sailing opportunities for those that wouldn’t normally have access or face barriers to participation, no experience necessary! Level 1 and 2 classes are 4-day, hands-on sailing courses that work on developing self-reliance, independence, teamwork, resourcefulness, and critical thinking skills on the water in a supportive learning environment. Level three is a one-day clinic that focuses on seamanship skills and continuing to build on the sailing experiences gained in previous courses. We welcome beginners, those returning to the sport, and returning WOW participants hoping for a challenge. Classes will begin in June and run through late August. We provide the boats, materials, and instructors. We just need you! We’ll meet for a short chalk talk lesson followed by ~2 hours of sailing on beautiful Pleasant Bay. Through a generous donation from a local family foundation scholarship for this program are available.

Level 1

Weekly, Monday through Thursday

$415/week, scholarships available

Timing will vary – see our registration portal for details!

The level one course is open to any woman who has never sailed or needs a refresher, and sailors who have never sailed a Catboat. The course runs four consecutive days and is offered during the day and evenings Monday through Friday. Participants learn the basic sailing principles, the basics of varying wind and weather patterns, rigging, steering, tacking, jibbing and correct mooring procedures.

Level 2

Weekly, Monday through Thursday

$415/week, scholarships available

Timing will vary – see our registration portal for details!

Level two expands on the beginner building blocks. This course dives a little deeper over the four days. Since all woman’s skills differ, our instructors will tailor their instruction specifically to each woman. Many women take more than one session of the level 2 course before moving into the advanced level.

Level 3

Level three is a one-day clinic that focuses on seamanship skills, continuing to build on the sailing experiences gained in previous courses. Participants spend time working on rope skills, boat handling, and navigation on Pleasant Bay. The clinic is open to qualified sailors with the approval of our WOW director.
