What could be better than a sailing and science-based outdoor summer camp that balances education and recreation?Campers will explore the natural wonders on our waterfront shoreline and the Bay, with the guidance and care of our experienced summer camp staff alongside local experts and scientists. All summer campers will enjoy a hands-on curriculum of science blended with the adventures of learning to sail. Campers will make lifelong friends and form bonds with our wonderful counselors and sailing instructors!
Our Sailing and Science Summer Camp program pairs discovery science and exploration with sailing. During science class, campers may make aquariums, care for baby oysters in an upweller, build boats to explore buoyancy, use a beach seine, observe marine habitats and wildlife, identify invasive invertebrates, and measure phytoplankton levels. On the water, they will be sailing Flying Scots, kayaking and rowing, and tying knots. Each camper will enjoy a tour of Pleasant Bay on our floating classroom. On the boat, your camper may test water quality, learn about island biogeography, or find out what our lobster traps catch. Our camp also offers creative outlets like acting out a weather forecast, learning how to display data creatively, and designing a city powered by green energy.
